a. MOS breakdown for band member (MOS 02-).

This paragraph covers 16 individual instrument players. By MOS they are-

(1) Cornet or trumpet player, MOS 02B.
(2) Euphonium player, MOS 02C.
(3) French horn player, MOS 02D.
(4) Trombone player, MOS 02E.
(5) Tuba player, MOS 02F.
(6) Flute player MOS 02G.
(7) Oboe player, MOS 02H.
(8) Clarinet player, MOS 02J.
(9) Bassoon player, MOS 02K.
(10) Saxophone player, MOS 02L.
(11) Percussion player, MOS 02M.
(12) Keyboard player, MOS 02N.
(13) Special band member, MOS 02S.
(14) Guitar player, MOS 02T.
(15) Electric bass player, MOS 02U.
(16) Bands senior sergeant, MOS 02Z.

b. Major duties.

The brass, woodwind, or percussion player supervises an instrumental section and plays a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument as a musician in a military band. Duties for MOS 02B, 02C, 02D, 02E, 02F, 02G, 02H, 02J, 02K, 02L, 02M, 02N, 02T and 02U at each level of skill are:

(1) MOSC 02-1O. Performs all applicable styles of music on an instrument. Expected styles include, but are not limited to, the following: marching band, ceremonial band, concert band, “classical”, jazz, ethnic, and “popular” music compositions. Performs on a musical instrument in a variety of ensembles, ranging from solo performance to full concert band. Tunes an instrument to a given pitch. Transposes moderately easy music. Discriminates and matches pitch. Performs operator maintenance on a musical instrument. Augments local security during periods of heightened combat intensity as required.

(2) MOS 02B. For MOS 02B only, performs bugle calls in ceremonies. For MOS 02K and 02H only, doubles on another instrument in marching band. For MOS 02N, 02T, and 02U only, augments the percussion section in marching and concert bands.

(3) MOSC 02-2O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of skill, and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel. Performs duties in administration, training, supply, and/or operations as required.

(4) MOSC 02-3O. Performs duties shown in preceding levels of skill, and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel. Organizes, instructs, and trains a section or consolidated section of related instrumentalists. Instructs section members in marching band movements. Supervises section operator maintenance. Counsels and evaluates section/squad members. Performs as Drum Major. Repairs instruments. Serves as audio/recording operator or librarian.

(5) MOSC 02-4O. Performs duties shown in preceding levels of skill, and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel. Supervises band support positions (administrative, supply, operations/training). Trains and leads the stage band. Assists with concert band training.

(6) MOSC 02-5O. Performs duties shown in preceding levels of skill, and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel. Advises the commander on all aspects of band operations and serves as the band commander in the absence of the band commander. Is the principal enlisted conductor of the band.

c. Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of
MOS.

The band member must possess the following qualifications:

(1) A physical demands rating of light for MOS 02B, 02D, 02G and 02J and medium for 02C, 02E, 02F, 02H, 02K, 02L, 02M, 02N, 02T and 02U.
(2) A physical profile of 222222.
(3) Meet qualifications listed in AR 614-200 or the civilian acquired skills criteria listed in AR 601-210.

d. Additional skill identifiers.

ASIs for any 02 series MOS are:

(1) C1-MACOM Band Qualified.
(2) P5-Master Fitness Trainer.
(3) 2S-Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 and above).
(4) 4A-Reclassification Training.
