MOS 23R HAWK Missile System Mechanic

The HAWK missile system mechanic supervises or performs unit level maintenance on the HAWK missile system and its associated equipment. Duties for MOS 23R at each skill level are:

a. Major duties.

(1) MOSC 23R1O. Performs unit level maintenance on the HAWK missile system and its associated equipment. Assists operators in march order and emplacement of equipment.

(2) MOSC 23R2O. Performs duties in preceding skill level, supervises lower grade soldiers and provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Provides technical assistance in orientation and alignment, conduct of operational and maintenance inspections, and march order and emplacement of the HAWK system. Initiates requests for repair parts, tools, test equipment and other supplies.

(3) MOSC 23R3O. Performs duties in preceding skill levels, supervises lower grade soldiers and provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Enforces safety procedures and standards. Conducts training programs for maintenance personnel. Supervises unit level maintenance on assigned equipment, preparation and maintenance of maintenance forms and records, and technical inspections on assigned equipment.

(4) MOSC 23R4O. Performs duties in preceding skill levels, supervises lower grade soldiers and provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Assists in establishing HAWK maintenance procedures. Coordinates and supervises HAWK maintenance activities and conducts technical inspections. Supervises the requisitioning and stockage of repair parts and supplies. Serves as a member of the maintenance and operations readiness inspection team.

(5) MOSC 23R5O. Performs duties in preceding skill levels, supervises lower grade soldiers and provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Evaluates, inspects, and coordinates maintenance and operational readiness activities in subordinate units. Advises the battalion commander on unit maintenance programs.

b. Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of MOS.

Missile mechanics must possess the following qualifications:

(1) A physical demands rating of heavy.
(2) A physical profile of 222221.
(3) Normal color vision.
(4) A minimum score of 110 in aptitude area EL.
(5) A security clearance of SECRET.
(6) Formal training (completion of MOS 23R conducted under the auspice of the Commandant, USA Air Defense Artillery School) mandatory.
(7) A U.S. citizen.

c. Additional skill identifiers.

(1) P5-Master Fitness Trainer.
(2) 2S-Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 and above).
(3) 4A-Reclassification Training.

d. Physical requirements and standards of grade.
