MOS 96D Imagery Analyst

The imagery analyst supervises or analyzes aerial and ground permanent record imagery developed by photographic and electronic means. Plans and recommends the use of imaging sensors for reconnaissance and surveillance missions. Duties for MOS 96D at each level of skill are:

a. Major duties.

(1) MOSC 96D1O. Uses principles and techniques of photogrammetry and employs electronic, mechanical, and optical devices to obtain information from imagery. Obtains intelligence by studying and analyzing imagery products. Determines target coordinates for accurate location of imagery analysis findings. Identifies enemy weapons, equipment, and defenses and determines Order of Battle. Analyzes military installations and lines of communictions. Conducts battle damage assessment (BDA) analysis. Prepares imagery analysis reports and products.

(2) MOSC 96D2O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Identifies entry zones. Computes volume by manual and automated means. Analyzes industrial facilities, telecommunications networks, and their components. Prepares Imagery Support requests. Determines National Imagery Interpretation Rating Scale (NIIRS) of imagery. Performs quality control check on aerial imagery analysis reports. Supervises analysis of Battle Damage Assessment and Order of Battle activity. Maintains imagery requirements database.

(3) MOSC 96D3O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Prepares imagery input to the collection plan. Uses all source intelligence in support of imagery intelligence reconnaissance and surveillance missions. Performs quality control checks on aerial imagery analysis reports. Supervises analysis of Battle Damage Assessment and Order of Battle activity. Maintains imagery requirements database.

(4) MOSC 96D4O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Prepares the collection plan, reproduction and dissemination requirements. Maintains the collection management data base. Tasks imagery collection assets.

(5) MOSC 96D5O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Supervises activities pertaining to the organization, training and operations. Assists in the implementation of imagery collection plan. Coordinates operating requirements of subordinate units for surveillance reconnaissance missions.

b. Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of MOS.

Imagery analysts must possess the following qualifications:

(1) A physical demands rating of medium.
(2) A physical profile of 222211.
(3) Normal color vision.
(4) Near vision correctable to approximately 14/14 (inches) standard Snellen, distance vision correctable to 20/20 (inches) standard Snellen and normal stereoscopic acuity, with or without correction.
(5) Never been a member of the U.S. Peace Corps, except as specified in AR 614-200, chapter 1.
(6) No information in military personnel, Provost Marshal, intelligence, or medical record which would prevent the granting of a security clearance under AR 380-67.
(7) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area ST.
(8) The soldier must meet TOP SECRET security clearance and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access eligibility requirements.
(9) The soldier must be a U.S. citizen.

(a) Members of immediate family (spouse, parents, brothers, sisters, and children) must also be U.S. citizens. Soldier and immediate family members can be naturalized citizens. If naturalized, there is no minimum residency requirements.

(b) Soldier and spouse must not have immediate family members who reside in a country within whose boundaries physical or mental coercion is known to be common practice, either against-

1.. persons accused of or acting in the interest of United States or
2.. the relatives of such persons to whom they may be reasonably considered to be bound by ties of affection, kinship or obligation. Near relatives will also include uncles, aunts, grandparents, fatherin- law, mother-in-law and relationships corresponding to any of the above persons inloco parentis (AR 630-5 and 37 USC 501).

(10) Meet career management and development criteria contained in AR 614-200, AR 600-200.
(11) Successfully completed (and be able to show proof of credit by official copy of transcript) 1 year of high school algebra or geometry.
(12) A high school graduate or equivalent.
(13) Formal training (completion of MOS 96D course under the auspices of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center) mandatory.
(14) Have neither commercial nor vested interest in a country within whose boundaries physical or mental coercion is known to be a common practice against persons acting in the interest of the U.S. This requirement applies to the soldier’s spouse as well.
(15) No record of conviction by court-martial.
(16) No record of conviction by a civil court for any offense other than minor traffic violations.
(17) Be advised that due to the nature of training and assignments, temporary restrictions may be place on foreign travel both during and after the term of service.
