MOS 98K Signals Collection/Identification Analyst

The signals collection/identification analyst performs and supervises collection, identification, exploitation, and analysis of foreign radioteletype, facsimile, and data communications. Performs collection management. Duties for MOS 98K at each skill level are:

a. Major duties.

(1) MOSC 98K1O. Operates signals intelligence/electronic warf are (SIGINT/EW) equipment and prepares logs and technical reports. Searches radio spectrum to collect and identify target communications. Performs elementary signals analysis to determine signal parameters for identification and processing.

(2) MOSC 98K2O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Operates SIGINT/ EW equipment, assists in the establishment of operational sites, maintains technical data bases in support of collection operations. Recognizes and reports items of intelligence interest. Performs intermediate signals analysis to determine signal parameters for identification. Performs collection management function in support of collection operations. Quality controls processing and reporting procedures.

(3) MOSC 98K3O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Supervises collection and identification activities and allocates collection resources to support/meet mission requirements. Coordinates interaction with other data collection and processing activities. Prepares technical reports and quality controls technical data bases in support of collection operations. Performs advanced signals analysis to determine signal parameters for identification. Supervises processing and reporting. Supervises collection management process.

(4) MOSC 98K4O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Supervises and determines SIGINT collection requirements and identification activities and interprets collection priorities at the platoon level.

(5) MOSC 98K5O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level and provides guidance to subordinate soldiers. Supervises immediate subordinates in SIGINT/EW operations and command procedures. Coordinates tactical and strategic signals collection/identification and provides appraisals of intelligence products, activities and operations. Develops unit intelligence training strategy.

b. Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of MOS.

Signals collection/identification analysts must possess the following qualifications:

(1) A physical demands rating of light.
(2) A physical profile of 222121.
(3) Normal color vision.
(4) A minimum score of 95 in aptitude area ST.
(5) Meet hearing acuity test standards per AR 40-501.
(6) Security clearance of TOP SECRET with eligible for access to sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
(7) A high school graduate or equivalent.
(8) Never have been a member of the U.S. Peace Corps, except as specified in AR 614-200, chapter 1.
(9) No information in military personnel, Provost Marshal, intelligence, or medical records which would prevent the granting of a security clearance under AR 380-67.
(10) No record of conviction by court-martial.
(11) No record of conviction by a civil court for any offense other than minor traffic violations.
(12) The soldier must be a U.S. citizen.

(a) Members of immediate family (spouse, parents, brothers, sisters, and children) must also be U.S. citizens. Soldier and immediate family members can be naturalized citizens. If naturalized, there is no minimum residency requirement.

(b) Soldier and spouse must not have immediate family members who reside in a country within whose boundaries physical or mental coercion is known to be common practice, either against-

1. Persons accused of or acting in the interest of the U.S.
2. The relatives of such persons to whom they may reasonably be considered to be bound by ties of affection, kinship, or obligation. Near relatives will also include uncles, aunts, grandparents, fatherin- law, mother-in-law, and relationships corresponding to any of the above persons in loco parentis (AR 630-5, para 6-2b).

(13) Have neither commercial nor vested interest in a country within whose boundaries physical or mental coercion is known to be a common practice against persons acting in the interest of the U.S. This requirement applies to the soldier’s spouse as well.
(14) Meet career management and development criteria contained in AR 600-200, AR 614-200, and DA Pam 351-4.
(15) Formal training (completion of MOS 98K course under the auspices of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center mandatory.
(16) Be advised that due to the nature of training and assignments, temporary restrictions may be placed on foreign travel both during and after the term of service.

(6) 2S-Battle Staff Operations (skill level 3 and above).
(7) 4A-Reclassification Training.
